2Work Where You Play
- CENTRAL CAMPUS RECREATION BUILDING (CCRB)
- Located on the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and
Geddes Road, the Central Campus Recreation
Building (1976) is the Departments largest and
most complete facility. Inside, you will find 3
basketball courts, 2 volleyball/3 badminton
courts, a 220-yard elevated running track, a
25-yard (6 lanes) swimming pool, free-weights and
fitness rooms, and much more. Although CCRB is
primarily used for the Drop-In Program, the
facility does have fitness classes through the
U-Move Program. The Main Offices of the
Department of Recreational Sports are located
here, along with the Division of Kinesiology. -
- INTRAMURAL SPORTS BUILDING (IMSB)
- Located on the Athletic Campus, the Intramural
Sports Building (1928) was the first collegiate
intramural sport building in America. Inside this
historical facility, you will find 4 basketball
courts, a 25-yard (5 lanes) swimming pool,
free-weights and fitness rooms, and much more.
Although IMSB is primarily used for the
Intramural Program, the Drop-In Program, Club
Sports events, and a variety of special events
are also held in the facility. The Intramural
Sports Building interconnects with Cliff Keen
Arena on the east, Canham Natatorium on the west,
and the University of Michigan Varsity Track on
the south. The IMSB is also home to M-Rock, a
climbing experience brought to you by Outdoor
Adventures. -
- North Campus Recreation Building (NCRB)
- Located at the corner of Hubbard Road and Murfin
Avenue, the North Campus Recreation Building
(1976) houses everything you need in a fitness
facility, including Indoor 25-yard swimming pool
(6 lanes), Indoor running track (1/10th mile)
free weights, selectorized machines, and
cardiovascular training machines (50 machines).
If you want to catch a workout and then play some
racquetball (4 courts), squash, wallyball,
basketball (2 courts), volleyball (2 nets), or
badminton (2 nets), then NCRBs the right choice
for you.
3- SPORTS COLISEUM
- Located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Hill
Street, the Sports Coliseum is primarily used for
the Intramural Program and the Club Sports
Program. The Sports Coliseum, a converted ice
rink, is a 36,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility
used for rentals, expos, and shows. The Sports
Coliseum is also home to the UM Mens Varsity
Gymnastics Team. The Sports Coliseum is generally
not open for drop-in activities. -
- RADRICK RECREATION AREA
- Located on Dixboro Road, the Radrick Recreation
Area is primarily used for the Challenge Program
and Rentals. The Radrick Facility (3,100 sq. ft.)
and Picnic Area provide an environment that is
conducive to effective and efficient meetings,
conferences and retreats. The facility can also
be requested for picnics, reunions, birthday
parties, and much more. This facility is
available by reservation only. -
- ELBEL FIELDS
- Located at the corner or Hill Street and S.
Division St, the Elbel Building (1951) houses the
Outdoor Adventure Center. Outdoor Adventures
offers rental equipment, trip planning resources,
and serves as the base camp for the Outdoor
Adventures wilderness medicine, leadership, and
additional programming. Outdoor Adventures has
more than 1000 pieces of equipment for you to
choose from and 6 different program areas.
Outdoor space include Basketball In-line
Skating Pad, Sand Volleyball Courts (2), Picnic
Area, Field Area for Cricket, Rugby, Soccer,
Softball and Ultimate Frisbee. -
- MITCHELL FIELDS
- Located on Fuller Road, between the Hospital and
North Campus. Facilities include a large Field
Area for Rugby, Soccer, Softball, and Frisbee. -
- PALMER FIELD
- Located just north of the CCRB and surrounded by
the Hill Dorms. Facilities Include Basketball
pad, 1/4 mile track, 16 Tennis Courts and a Field
Area (Soccer, Lacrosse, Rugby, Frisbee, etc.).
4CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS Individuals employed by
Rec Sports who play the dual role of both
employee and participant must realize that they
are held to a higher standard of conduct on and
off the job than expected of other student
participants.
- CLUB SPORTS
- The Club Sports Program (763-3562) includes more
than 40 club sports ranging from aikido to water
polo. Participation may be structured or casual
it may incorporate competition, instruction, and
social fellowship, or any combination. Each club
is developed, governed, and administered by the
student membership of that particular club. -
- Drop-In Program
- The Drop-In Program features a variety of
self-directed recreational activities. Facility
space and time are made available for use on a
drop-in basis. Participation in activities
requires neither team affiliation nor the
commitment resulting from structured play. With
increased emphasis on total wellness, fitness and
the pursuit of healthy lifestyles, the Drop-In
Program appeals to the busy lifestyle of the
University community. - Drop-In activities include badminton, basketball,
boxing (speed bag and heavy bag only), dance,
general exercise, handball, martial arts,
racquetball, squash, swimming, table tennis,
volleyball, wallyball, and weight training. Check
the Drop-In Schedule for more details. - INTRAMURAL SPORTS (IMS)
- The Intramural Sports Program (763-3562) provides
a broad spectrum of activity for personal
enjoyment, fitness, and competition. Through
various team, individual, and dual activities,
the program offers every individual and/or group
in the campus community an opportunity to
participate! -

- FACILITY RENTALS
- Many of the spaces within our facilities and at
our fields can be reserved for your groups
special event. Reunions, picnics, sports
tournaments, Rec Nights, charity events,
scholarship programs and softball games are just
a few of the many reasons that groups look to U-M
Rec Sports for their facilities needs. All groups
wishing to reserve facilities need to fill out a
rental request form or call 936-0616 for more
information. - MEMBERSHIP SERVICES
- Rec Sports offers a wide range of recreation
activities designed to meet the interests of the
students and the University community. Affiliates
include students, faculty/staff, UM retirees, and
alumni. In addition, university affiliates may
sponsor non-affiliated adults for a membership at
the specified rate. Current students have access
to all of the facilities when they pay their
student activity fee each semester. affiliates
are eligible to purchase memberships at specified
rates. -
- Members have access to 3 recreation facilities,
numerous programs that require no extra fee,
including use of over 270 pieces of cardio
equipment, over 220 pieces of weight equipment,
equipment check-out, unlimited drop-in use of
basketball, volleyball, racquetball courts, two
indoor tracks, and three indoor pools. Members
can register to play in a variety of intramural
sports and participate in club sports

Outdoor Adventures Rental Center engage in
learning experiences through our Challenge
Program at the Radrick Recreation Area. -
6CHALLENGE PROGRAM The Challenge Program
(936-0603) is an activity-based program providing
organizations with exciting experiential team
building. The Challenge Program uses
problem-solving initiatives along with a ropes
course which includes low elements, a high ropes
course and a climbing tower. Available to
student, faculty and staff groups, as well as the
general public, the Challenge Program has a
beautiful outdoor site about 10 minutes from
campus. Each year the Challenge Program hires and
trains 10-12 facilitators, most of who come from
the University. OUTDOOR ADVENTURES The Outdoor
Adventures Program (764-3967) caters to all of
your adventure needs! Outdoor Adventures allows
you to take advantage of Michigans on-campus
outfitter by participating in the wide array of
programs and events. Rent outdoor equipment from
the Rental Center, get-away for a weekend or
Spring Break trip, learn to rock climb at the
indoor wall, gain outdoor leadership skills, or
become certified in wilderness medicine. Outdoor
Adventures hosts the Banff Mountain Film
Festivals each spring and fall. The Outdoor
Adventures Center is located on the corner of
Hill and Division, and is available to students,
faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
