Title: Harwich Fire Department

1
Harwich Fire Department
  • Standpipe Pack System
  • Set up and Operation

2
The System
  • 1 100 bundle of green hose. This the is attack
section. The nozzle is pre-attached and in the
    center of the bundle.
  • 1 50 bundle of yellow hose. This is the supply
    section. Gated wye is attached.
  • 1 Equipment bag with spanners, door chocks, 1 ¾
x 2 ½ reducer, and the automatic tip for the
    break apart nozzle.

3
System Storage
  • The standpipe pack system is stored on the front
    bumper of each engine.
  • All three components are stored here.
  • Allows for multiple uses.

4
How Its Made
  • The hose is rolled male end in into a standard
    roll.
  • The roll is then placed on a table and unrolled
    as shown.

5
How Its Made
  • The nozzle is attached to the male end.
  • The last 3 feet of the outside loop are doubled
back on the outside of the bundle to make
    connecting the bundle easier.
  • The loose roll is then compressed into a bundle
and straps are applied as shown.

6
How Its Made
  • The Supply Bundle is made the same way
  • Make sure the coupling is tucked into the strap

7
System Storage Details
  • The Standpipe bag and the supply bundle go into
    the hose tray.
  • The supply length is folded in half.

8
More System Storage Details
  • The attack length is then placed across the top
of the hose tray with the loops over the tow
    eyes.
  • Bungie cords hold the hose to the bumper.

9
ENGINE 64 Setup
10
Uses and Operations
  • To deploy the bundles, simply remove the straps
    and connect to water supply.
  • The nozzle is advanced after the line is charged.
  • For standpipe operations connect the supply
length to the standpipe and then attach the
attack length to the male end of the supply
length. Do not flake out either length.

11
Uses and Operations
  • The automatic tip is left in the equipment bag.
For standpipe operations, the smooth tip should
be used first due to the lower operating pressure
and the likelihood of debris in the standpipe
    system it self.
  • The equipment bag also has wood door chocks,
    spanners and an 1 ¾ x 2 ½ reducer

12
Uses and Operation
  • The 100 attack length can also be used as a
trash line by connecting it to the front
    discharge
  • Deployment should not take any longer that
    deploying the old trash line.
  • The 100 attack length can also be used to extend
a line, or to reduce a 2 ½ line down.

13
Upcoming Changes
  • A short length of 2 ½ hose will be placed into
the equipment bag and attached to the gated wye.
The wye will be removed from the supply length.
This will be used to extend the standpipe
    connection out of the stairwell
  • A pipe wrench will also be added to the bag to
assist with frozen caps and valves.

14
Ideas and Suggestions
  • The new system is a work in progress, and ideas
and suggestions for improvement are welcome.
  • Please contact the Deputy with any ideas.
