Displaying Information View
  • Normal three panes - slide, outline, and notes
    (can be adjusted).
  • Slide sorter view multiple slides on one screen.

    speaker notes or enter all items for speaker
    notes.

Creating a Master Slide
  • Master control the placement and formatting of
    text and allows you to add elements that you want
    repeated on every slide.

Four Masters
  • Slide changes on master will also be made on all
    other slides.
  • Title master for all title slides.
  • Notes affects appearance of speaker notes when
    viewed.
  • Handouts change how handouts will appear when
    printed.

Inserting Headers and Footers
  • Headers and footers text that is repeated on
    every slide at the top (header) or bottom
    (footer).
  • Slides can only display footers, but notes and
    handouts can use both.
  • Footer can be your name, company name, course
    name, etc.

Inserting New Slides
  • Select Insert - New slide, or click on the button
    on the formatting toolbar.
  • Layout can be changed by selecting Format - Slide
    layout.

Duplicating/Deleting/Rearranging Slides
  • Duplicating Select Edit - Duplicate.
  • Deleting Select Edit - Delete slide.
  • Rearranging Use View - Slide sorter to click and
    drag slide to new position.

Selecting Text
  • Text must be selected to delete, add tab
    positions, indenting text, cut/copy/paste,
    formatting, adding bullets/numbers.
  • When text selected, squares (called handles)
    appear around the object. They can be used to
    resize or drag the object.

Select vs Edit Mode
  • When the border around the text has diagonal
    lines in the border you are in edit mode (selects
    specific areas of text).
  • When the border has small dots you are in select
    mode (affects entire content). Position cursor at
    one of the edges and click when you see the
    arrows appear.

  • Inserting click where you want text and type.
  • Deleting backspace or delete key
  • Cut Select Edit - Cut
  • Copy Select Edit - Copy
  • Paste Select Edit - Paste

Checking the Spelling
  • Automatically works in background to check for
    spelling mistakes as you type.
  • Tools - Spelling checks entire document.

  • Found in Format menu.
  • Formatting changes you make will override
    formatting options applied in the master slide.

    click left, center, right, or justify.
  • Bullets Select Format - Bullets and Numbering.
    You may choose the size, colour, picture, and
    customize.

Inserting Graphics
  • Select Insert - Picture. Several options Clip
    Art, from file
  • Manipulating pictures sizing, moving,
    modifications.
  • When you double click on your picture, a new
    screen will pop up allowing you to manipulate
    size, colour, etc.

Creating Tables
  • Table a grid made of rows and columns where data
    can be entered. The intersection of a row and
    column is a cell.
  • Select Insert - Table and decide how many columns
    and rows you would like.

Formatting Tables
  • Adjusting width and height, merging cells,
    splitting cells, adding/changing/removing border
    style and fill backgrounds for selected cells.

Creating a Chart
  • Represents numerical data in a more
    understandable manner.
  • May use 2D or 3D charts.
  • Select Insert - Chart. You may then manipulate
    the data in Microsoft Graph (a different
    application than PowerPoint).

Creating Objects
  • Toolbar on left side of program.
  • Can create lines, arrows, rectangles, squares,
    ovals, circles, text boxes, diagrams, etc
  • AutoShapes include objects created by Microsoft.
  • Format your shapes by double clicking on object.
    A menu will pop up allowing you to change colour,
    size, etc

Enhancements
  • Background Colour Select Format - Background.
  • Be careful when selecting colour for background
    and text. The presentation should be easy to
    read.
  • Changing background colour does not remove deign
    tempates, only the colour will be affected.

  • Animating Objects Select Slide Show - Preset
    animations or custom animations.
  • Try to be consistent in the number and style of
    animations as well as the speed (depending on
    your audience).

    transition.
  • Again, try to be consistent (may be distracting
    to audience).

Creating Notes
  • Notes organize your thoughts about each slide.
  • The notes pane in the normal view allows you to
    add notes about each slide as you create them.

Viewing Slide Show
  • Select Slide Show - View show.
  • Select Slide Show - Set up show. This allows you
    to continuously play show.
