Purpose of Title I and EIA-SCE
  • Meet the educational needs of low-income
    children.
  • Provide supplemental funds to raise the
    achievement level of K - 12 grade students in the
    four targeted curricular areas
  • Language Arts

  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Provide quality educational opportunities for all
    children in public school.

Compensatory Education
  • State funding source. (This is the states
    contribution to Title I.)
  • EIA-SCE for the 2000/2001 school year was funded
    at 36 per student. Schools received an
    additional 50 per student last Nov/Dec 2000.

    the 2000/2001 school year. Schools received an
    additional 53 per student last Nov/Dec 2000.

How Do Schools Receive Funding?
  • The district is required by federal law to rank
    schools with the highest concentration of
    children from low-income families.
  • The ranking is used to establish eligibility in
    the compensatory education program.

What criteria is used to rank schools?

  • Reform effort of Title I.
  • Focus is on the entire school program.
  • Goal is to define a coherent program for all
    students.
  • Title I funds may be used along with other funds
    to improve the schools entire educational
    program.
  • Schools participate in a year-long planning
    process.

What is a Targeted Assistance School (TAS)?
  • In a Targeted Assistance School
  • The school has chosen not to participate in a
    Schoolwide Program.
  • Funding and services are targeted only for
    identified children.
