POS Order Entry Units
  • Hard keys

Types of Keys on POS Terminals
  • Preset keys price, descriptors, tax
  • Price look-up (PLU) keys

Touch-screen and OCR Terminals
  • Touch-screen terminals may also be equipped with
    special magnetic strip reader devices that allow

    identification cards to sign in and out of the
    system
  • OCR terminals allow servers to use hand-held,
    pen-like bar code readers to enter orders at
    service station terminals from laminate bar-coded

  • Two-way communications allow a server to include
    special instructions, such as no salt or
    medium rare as part of an order
  • They also can immediately alert a server if an
    item is out of stock
