Purpose of Conferences
  • To bring the local resources together in each
    reservation or urban community to address
    prevention of teen suicide.
  • To train teen and adult mentors for leadership
    role in prevention of suicide
  • To assist youth and mentors to implement their
    strategic plans for the next steps

Natural Helpers
  • Help other teens through listening and referral

  • November 2004 Northern Cheyenne 11 youth 20
    adults
  • November 2004 North Central _at_ Havre for 26 youth
    from Ft. Peck, Ft. Belknap and Havre 11 adults
  • January 2005 Ft. Peck 32 youth 20 adults

  • June 2005 National Suicide Prevention Network in
    Albuquerque 26 members from each of the 12 Areas
  • July 30 August 3 Billings 50 participants from
    Montana, Wyoming South Dakota, Arizona. 20 Train
    the Trainers hands on experience as facilitators
    and clan leaders. 37 teens age 14-19.

  • February 2006 Great Falls for Missoula, Blackfeet
    and Great Falls Train the Trainers and planning
    on site workshops
  • March 2006 Ft. Belknap 30 youth 20 adults all
    three high schools participated
  • May 2006 Blackfeet Train the Trainers 10 and 15
    youth

    Register to MH/SS staff and Alcohol Substance

Summary
  • 2004 to 2006 IHS has been involved in teen
    suicide prevention workshops
  • All MH and SS staff are heavily involved in
    crisis intervention, diagnosis and treatment of
    depression, behavioral problems and school based
    services
  • Our goal is to be a partner step up, dont hold
    back as Clayton would say.
