  • Science Across the World (SAW)
  • International education programme developed by
    ASE in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline
  • Chemistry poster competition in 2003
  • In partnership with IUPAC
  • Topic Living in a Chemical World
  • Best entries displayed at IUPAC Congress
  • Over 400 entries from 24 countries

  • A physics poster competition based on SAWs
    proven model
  • In partnership with IoP and other World Year of
    Physics national coordinators
  • Aim
  • To get young people thinking about how physics
    affects their everyday lives

How will it work?
  • Guidelines available on SAW website
    www.scienceacross.org from January
  • Two age categories10-13 and 14-16
  • All languages are accepted, but posters should be
    self-explanatory
  • Both electronic and paper entries allowed. A3
    size.
  • National WYP coordinators publicise competition
  • Schools send posters to SAW by deadline, 31st May
    2005

How will it work?
  • SAW compile shortlist of 40 entries to be
    exhibited at EPS13, 11-15 July 2005
  • International panel of judges decide on winners
  • Prizes
  • Hopefully funded by EPS
  • Digital cameras for students in two categories
    10-13 and 14-16 and teachers with most quality
    entries.
  • All entrants receive certificate

Role of SAW
  • SAW will administer the project
  • Post competition details application procedure
    on www.scienceacross.org
  • Collect all entries (paper and electronic)
  • Select a short-list of 40 students for judging
  • Provide certificates for all entrants
  • All of the above will be funded by SAW

Role of WYP coordinators
  • Contribute to publicity
  • Publicise competition in own country
  • Encourage entrants from wide variety of schools
  • Link to www.scienceacross.org
  • Nominate judges who will be present at EPS 13

  • SAW will advertise the competition via
  • Their website
  • Their electronic and paper newsletters
  • The ASE website
  • The ASE electronic newsletter
  • All winning entries will be displayed on the SAW
    website
  • National coordinators will be responsible for
    advertising the competition in their country

  • UK Launch at ASE Annual Meeting in UK 6 January
    2005
  • All details available online from then
  • Deadline for posters to reach SAW 31st May 2005
  • Long listing of 40 entries June 2005
  • Final judging announcement of winners
  • EPS13, 11th- 15th July 2005
