Title: Using Classroom Response Systems CPS in the classroom
1Using Classroom Response Systems (CPS) in the
classroom
- A step by step guide for teachers
- By Katie Shea
2Why use them?
- Increases interaction from every student
- Positive motivation as correct answers are shown
directly after answering - Provides a means for discussing answers to
questions in preparation for a test - Gives all students a means to answer, without
having to speak (focus shy students) - Fun and entertaining for students to generate
responses with a clicker
31.) Create your class list
Be sure you are in the prepare section and choose
new class Type in your students names.
42.) Importing Exam View questions
- On the same prepare page, go to Lessons and
Assessments - Find the name of your database on the leftside
and select it - Click the green (new) button and choose folder.
- Name it ExamView.
- Open this file to appear in the Prepare/Lessons
and assessments tab of CPS
53.) Setting up for using the clickers
Move to the engage section. Find the file your
Exam View questions are in and be sure you check
the box of the assessment youd like to use.
6Are you ready?
- You will need to hook up the CPS transmitter to
the USB plug on your computer - Check to be sure the monitor you are using is
hooked up to the projection screen - Each student will receive a clicker. Their
number, corresponds with the class list you
created (maybe use mailbox numbers, line numbers,
etc?) - If you are all set, hit the green engage button
for the questions to begin.
7Making sure the clickers work
- This shot will appear at the top of your screen.
- If youd like to take attendance, to be sure the
clickers are working, hit the class button and
attendance
8How to take Attendance
Have the students click any button. If their
number lights up, their clicker is
working. Replace any clickers that are out of use.
9Lets get these clickers clicking!
- Close out of the attendance window
- Hit the next button
- This will bring up question number 1
10And the answer is.
- Prep students to read the question carefully and
not hit any buttons - To begin, hit the start button and then the arrow
to begin timing
11To begin clicking
- As students click the answers, their light will
flash blue - To check to be sure they answered correctly, they
can press the button again. - Green means they are pressing the same answer
- Yellow means they have changed their answer
- Red means they have chosen an answer that is not
an option - This will show how many students have answered
12At the Final Countdown.
- At the completion of the minutes, this screen
will pop up - The correct answer is shown
- The percentage of the class who got it correct is
displayed - To move to the next question, touch the green
arrow
13And so on.
- Continue through your Exam View questions in the
same manner. - You may choose, depending on your purpose, to
discuss the answers as you go on, or continue as
an opportunity. - The program saves data on its own
14Reports, reports, reports
- Hit the report button and you can choose from a
wide variety of reports to print out. - Right at your fingertips you can see
- How each student achieved
- Percentage of correct answers by the class
- Study guides for students to study from
- Much more
