Target Population The program was developed for
K-1 students identified by teachers as at-risk
for behavior issues. The intervention works with
the child, family, teacher and classmates
Services Provided First Step to Success is a
school and home-based intervention. Services are
coordinated by a Coach, who plays a behavioral
game in the classroom with the child and works
with parents to provide a supportive
collaboration for early school success. The
intervention uses positive reinforcement,
behavior cues, practice of appropriate behaviors,
group classroom rewards, and communication with
parents. The school-based component lasts about
30 classroom days and the home-based piece
includes seven one-hour meetings with the Coach
and parent/s. Trainers Annemieke Golly, Ph.D.
is one of the original developers of the First
Step to Success Program. She is an enthusiastic
and entertaining presenter and has been well
received by audiences all over the world. Judy
Arthur, M.S. is Tigard Tualatin School Districts
First Step to Success Lead Coach. She will
deliver the nuts and bolts of the First Step to
