Title: THE LETTERS OF ST PAUL

1
THE LETTERS OF ST PAUL
  • WHAT DO THEY TEACH ABOUT MORALITY IN RELATION TO
    THE CAPITAL SINS?

2
PRIDE vs HUMILITY
  • PRIDE
  • HUMILITY
  • One of the seven capital sins. Pride is undue
self-esteem or self-love, which seeks attention
and honor and sets oneself in competition with
    God (CCC 1866).
  • The virtue by which a Christian acknowledges that
God is the author of all good. Humility avoids
inordinate ambition or pride, and provides the
foundation for turning to God in prayer (CCC
2559). Voluntary humility can be described as
    "poverty of spirit" (CCC 2546).

ENVY vs KINDNESS
  • ENVY
  • KINDNESS/CHARITY

and the desire to have it for oneself. One of the
seven capital sins, envy is contrary to the tenth
    commandment (CCC 2539).
  • The theological virtue by which we love God above
all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as
ourselves for the love of God (CCC 1822).

  • PATIENCE/MEEKNESS

which, when it is not controlled by reason or
hardens into resentment and hate, becomes one of
the seven capital sins. Christ taught that anger
is an offense against the fifth commandment (CCC
    1765, 1866, 2262).
  • a form of temperance that controls every
inordinate resentment at anothers character or
    behavior
