2PRIDE vs HUMILITY
- One of the seven capital sins. Pride is undue
self-esteem or self-love, which seeks attention
and honor and sets oneself in competition with
God (CCC 1866).
- The virtue by which a Christian acknowledges that
God is the author of all good. Humility avoids
inordinate ambition or pride, and provides the
foundation for turning to God in prayer (CCC
2559). Voluntary humility can be described as
"poverty of spirit" (CCC 2546).

6ENVY vs KINDNESS
- Resentment or sadness at another's good fortune,
and the desire to have it for oneself. One of the
seven capital sins, envy is contrary to the tenth
commandment (CCC 2539).
- The theological virtue by which we love God above
all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as
ourselves for the love of God (CCC 1822).

8WRATH vs PATIENCE

is an offense against the fifth commandment (CCC

10LUST vs CHASTITY
- The inordinate craving for, or indulgence of, the
carnal pleasure which is experienced in the human

- The cardinal moral virtue that moderates the
attraction of pleasure and pro- vides balance in
the use of created goods. It ensures the mastery
