Definition of Additional Science

• The additional science is defined by topics,
  which are not covered by the main objectives of
  the mission defined as
• Asteroseismology/Helioseismology
• Exoplanet search
• It may not or could possibly influence the design
  of the instrument, but it is something to be
  considerated when additional science has been
  proposed.

SONG properties to be exploited

• High duty cycle monitoring for extended periods.
• Photometric measurements in one or two colours.
  The colours and the field of view is not defined
  at this point but depends on your input.
• Time series spectroscopy in a limited spectral
  region. The region needs to cover the iodine
  spectrum, but an extension to smaller or higher
  wavelengths is not impossible.
• Simultaneous spectroscopy and photometry
• With a fiber fed spectrograph from 3-4 small
  telescopes, one could do simultaneous
  photometry/spectroscopy of 3-4 objects.

Examples of observations

• Doppler imaging, but consider the limitations set
  by the telescope size. Star spots, modes of
  oscillations and other surface structures can be
  observed.
• Time critical events like stellar flares, gamma
  ray bursts can be followed on an almost 24 hour
  basis.
• More examples are to be provided by you. I am
  just serving as a coordinator and gateway to the
  project and not as someone that get all the
  bright ideas.
