1
An Introduction to the Interpersonal Development
Domain
2
Interpersonal Development
  • The focus of this domain is on
  • building positive social relationships

  • managing and resolving conflicts.

3

people in a range of context
  • the social conventions which underpin
    relationships
  • learning how to act in socially responsible ways
  • strategies for understanding, managing and
    resolving conflict

5
Working in teams
  • This dimension focuses on
  • developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours
to cooperate with others to contribute to the
    achievement of group goals
  • not only task achievement, but also on
contributing to, and reflecting on, the learning
which occurs through being part of a team.

6

Linking Interpersonal Development to other domains
  • Brainstorm for a list of topics/activities
    relevant to other domain/s
  • For example Geography
  • Through fieldwork and other activities, students
develop their interpersonal skills in working
cooperatively with others in teams to provide a
broad range of perspectives and insights on
issues. Students are encouraged to respect
individuality and empathise with others in both
local and global contexts, acknowledging the
diversity of individuals and responding with
    appropriate sensitivity

9
Strategies for assessment in the Interpersonal
Development domain
  • Structured observation
  • Peer assessment
  • Self assessment
  • Reflective writing
  • Student interview

10
Issues for teaching and assessment of IPD
  • needs to be explicitly taught and assessed
  • can sometimes be difficult to assess
  • ensure that assessment strategies assess IPD
    skills and knowledge
  • self-assessment does not always reflect the
    functionality of student behaviour
  • students require practice to develop skills such
    as self-reflection
  • teacher observations more likely to be accurate
and describe a wider range of skills
  • timetabling can limit opportunities for students
    to demonstrate skills
