Outline
  • Project Overview
  • Hardware Status
  • Software Status
  • Future Work
  • End Goals

3
Problem Description
  • Improve method of communication between
    subsystems of AU solar car
  • Allow driver access to new features such as turn
indicators, trip odometer, cruise control, etc.
  • Provide driver and chase vehicle (via wireless
    modem) with real-time system information
  • Improve vehicle safety by implementing a safe
mode for powering down in the event of a system
    fault

Hardware Status
  • Board layout almost complete
  • Generic board for all the nodes
  • Node-specific characteristics in software
  • Using the 80-pin package for the MC9S12
  • Need access to more IO pins
  • High-density header
  • Break out signals to different devices

7
Hardware Schematic
8
Hardware Fabrication
  • Goal hardware ready for fabrication by Spring
    Break
  • Hand off design to Joe Haggerty for fabrication
  • Test hardware after Spring Break

9
Software
  • CAN communication
  • Analog-to-Digital conversion
  • Push button interrupts
  • RS-232 communication
  • Timers
  • Display

10
Software
Optrex 20x4 LCD display
11
Future Work
  • Node formation for each subsystem
  • CAN message hierarchy
  • RS-232 packetization of streaming data
  • Safe Mode implementation

12
End Goals
  • Manufactured boards for each node using surface
    mount components
  • Software for each node implementing
    system-specific code design
  • Detailed documentation of project progression
