The Joys of Contingency
  • Brought to you by
  • the SGA Executive Treasurer, Robert Burden

3
What is Contingency?
  • A specific fund set aside during the FEB process
that can serve as funding to any non-FEB student
organization for a specific event or internal
use. This year, the SGA began the year with
    48,249.00 to give away!
  • Contingency is the most requested means of
funding by organizations to the SGA

4
Benefits of Contingency
  • Allows non-FEB groups to put on FEB-like events
  • Promotes long-term planning and financial
    organization
  • Allows for more flexible use of funds than
    program grants

5
Contingency Stipulations
  • There are a few regulations on how contingency
    funding can be used
  • The funds will not be used towards events aimed
at generating net profit for the
    club/organization
  • This now includes funding of CDs
  • The funds will not be used for donations to
    charitable or non-charitable groups (ex
    honorariums)
  • The funds will not be used to fund loans
  • The funds will not be used for any food and/or
    dietary requests of the club/organization
  • Funding for seminars, conventions, retreats, etc.
will only be used towards registration fees or a
    portion thereof
  • Funding may be used to pay for no more than 4
executive members OR ½ of the executive committee
    whichever is less

6
Eligibility
  • Any JMU recognized club/organization in good
standing with SOS for at least 4 months
  • All other funding options have been exhausted
  • The request is within the set limitations, and is
    not in excess of 2,000
  • This is not a third request by one
club/organization within the same fiscal year

7
Applying
  • If all criteria are met, a bill must be submitted
to the SGA Senate for the request to be voted on.
To write and propose the bill, contact the
