Changing Display Properties

• Control Panel
• Used to customize desktop
• Found on Start menu
• From Control Panel, choose Appearance and
  Themes
• Pick a Task or click Display

Control Panel Features (Tabs)

• ThemesPredefined set of icons, fonts, colors,
  sounds, and other window elements together these
  elements are called the desktop theme
• DesktopPictures and graphics that can be used as
  background use those provided or create one

• Screen SaverChoose a static or moving graphic or
  blank screen when system is not being used
• AppearanceControls colors, fonts, and sizes of
  various screen elements use predefined schemes
  or create one

• SettingsChange resolution, number of colors of
  display, change display type, change other
  display characteristics

Selecting a Desktop Theme

• Each user can have a separate theme
• To select a theme
• Click Themes tab
• From menu, choose and click a theme
• Click Apply

Setting a Background Design

• To change background design
• Click Desktop tab
• Select from Background list, browse for other
  graphic files, or select a color (Background must
  be None)
• Click Apply

• Picture or graphic files can be used use digital
  pictures or original graphic designs
• To use image from Web as background
• Right-click on picture
• Click Set As Wallpaper

• Default background stretches across screen
• Background design can be centered or tiled by
  selecting option from menu

Choosing a Screen Saver

1. Click Screen Saver tab
2. Choose screen saver from menu
3. Click Apply

Changing Appearance

1. Click Appearance tab
2. Choose Windows and buttons, Color scheme, and/or
   Font size from menus
3. Click Apply

Customizing Icons

• To customize icons on desktop
• Click Customize Desktop button toward bottom of
  Desktop tab
• Select icon to be changed and click Change Icon
• Click Restore Default to return to default
  settings
