CEDAW in Mongolia
  • Mongolia has been joined 20 conventions related
    to ensuring human rights and freedom
  • Ratification of CEDAW in 1981
  • Ratification of Optional Protocol of CEDAW on
    2001
  • Submission of last periodic report of the CEDAW
    implementation in 2006

Legal Reforms
  • Constitutional(1992) prohibition of
    discrimination

Revision of Legislation
  • Law on Advertisement (2002) prohibits
    discriminative advertisement
  • Law on Political Parties (2005) provides
  • equal opportunity to represent at the parties
    decision-making level without sex-discrimination
    and
  • nomination to participate in the elections, and
    choosing its cadres based on gender equality
  • Law on Parliamentary Elections (2006) states that
    no less than 30 of candidates nominated party to
    elections will be women.

Lessons learned
  • Needs of women especially mothers and girls must
    be priority in any developmental activity
  • A change should take into account womens and
    mens specific needs
  • Specific training for policy-makers has been
    played great role to supervise, assess, report on
    the implementation of CEDAW and integrate it into
    sectoral policies.

  • No practice to refer CEDAW in-lower level courts
  • Inadequate resource for regular campaigns on
    CEDAW among the public
  • Insufficient participation of private sector in
    the implementation of policies to ensure human
    rights
  • Lack of studies and gender analysis on

Further actions to be taken
  • Pay special attention to the social support to
    womens development, particularly to vulnerable
    women
  • Support research and gender studies (i.e. study
    gender related and sexual harassment at job
    place) and analyze legislations impact on women
  • Establish a legislative basis that will ensure
    women equal access to the labor market and equal
    opportunities to work and prevent direct and
    indirect discrimination in employment.

    mechanism for coordination and management to
    promote womens human rights (i.e. consultative
