2 Lets include art in the GLOBE Program!
3Suggestions and Strategy
- Setting up GLOBEs Art Expert Group.
- Let the Art Project be counted among GLOBEs
protocols. - Let there be cooperation between GLOBEs
Scientific Team and the Art Group in improving
environmental awareness.
4Suggestions and Strategy
4. The Art Group should elaborate its methods to
support environmental education. 5. Let GLOBEs
Head Office encourage GLOBE students to create
works of art, (e.g. drawings, paintings,
photographs, poems and songs). Besides, let the
Head Office ensure them an opportunity to present
those artworks on Internet websites, at
conferences, at other events and in
publications.
5Suggestions and Strategy
6. At teachers further training workshops, let
us make art a subject of teaching. 7. Let us
encourage GLOBEs adult participants to
demonstrate their artistic activity.
6Suggestions and Strategy
- 8. At GLOBEs annual conferences, we should
permit the representatives of science and art to
share their achievements in environmental
education as equal partners. That is in an effort
to facilitate communication, an interchange of
views, recognition of each others activities and
cooperation.
7Suggestions and Strategy
- 9. Let us use GLOBEs conferences as an
opportunity for the representatives of the
various nations to display their countries art
and culture, e.g. folk costumes, folk music, folk
dance and folk art.
8 At the Meeting of Country Coordinators held in
Prague in 2004, we had a workshop titled GLOBE
and Art, seeking ways to include art in the
GLOBE Program.
9 We worked in three groups and made the
following proposals
10Announcing artistic competitions in painting
and other themes, e.g. E-art and electronic
judging.
11- Encouraging the GLOBE schools to
incorporate music in the GLOBE Program, o
find the sounds of natureo compose
natural symphonies, e.g. a river symphony
12 Organising theatre performances, dances,
cross-cultural exchanges
13 Designing satellite images as an art
14 Encouraging the writing of poetry and short
novels
Mother Earth A Poem by Botond Hegedus,
a secondary school student at Deák Ferenc
Gimnázium in Fehérgyarmat, Hungary Nature is
more than what youd think, Not just woods or
wild flowers. Nature is your Mother who feeds
you, Brings you up and when your time comes To
pass away, She will touch you gently and hug
you. But what is that child like Who attacks his
Mother, feeds Her With poison and defiles Her? Do
not be such a child of an unselfish Mother.
Defend and protect Her at all costs Because if
She fails you too will fail Soon and nothing will
be forgiven.
15 Making the students works of art known on
websites, CDs and in travelling exhibitions.
16 Involving non-scientific students and teachers
in artistic activity
17 Creating a virtual gallery on
www.globe.gov

postage stamps and calendars.
