Why Advocacy?

• Without advocacy the epidemiological efforts can
  languish in obscure and inward looking academic
  ghettos and fail to be translated into reforms
  that can benefit the public health

• In view of the importance of the creation of
  effective advocacy material to support all of our
  technical efforts and yours as well as promoting
  epidemiological ideas to policy makers and the
  general public,

The Stop TB unit in EMRO

• has produced this poster to commemorate the
  World TB day 2002

STBs vision

• To eliminate TB from the Region by 2050
• The first children born in this millennium in the
  Region will see TB eliminated in their lifetime

The posters portrays

• a young boy called Omar Omar was born in
  Egypt on January 2000, he appears in the poster
  holding a sign that calls for people to help
  Stop TB in his generations lifetime

The posters idea

• Was originated by Dr. Seita who was playing one
  day with his 5-year-old daughter, Hana, using a
  Stop TB sign. The way Hana was holding the sign
  inspired her father to pickup his camera and take
  a few shots.

Dr. Seita said

• It was just a fun game at the beginning, and
  then it became really personal, when all of
  sudden I realized the meaning of what we were
  saying TB eliminated. The daunting task, the
  tremendous challenge and the real implications of
  what we were doing everything became very
  personal to me

• This is really how we want it to be, to get the
  message through in a very personal way, to cross
  national boundaries and social statuses and get
  everybody actively involved in the mission to
  Stop TB in our Region by 2050 starting TODAY

This is how you can get involved

• Look around you to find a child born on January
  2000
• Dress him/her or both in traditional costumes
• Have him/her or the two of them hold stop TB
  signs like the one Omar is holding

• Hire a professional photographer to take their
  photo wearing national cloths and holding the
  Stop TB sign
• SEND it to us at the Regional Office

The rest is up to us

• We will be collecting all the childrens photos
  from all over the Region and then use them to
  prepare the Regional poster of 2003

• With your help, a lot of dedication, hard work
  and Gods will, we would have moved a step closer
  towards achieving our mission and towards making
  the millennium children
