What are record books?
  • Record books have many names project books,
    study guides, project manuals, etc, etc
  • There are hundreds of record book subjects
    (horse, electricity, beekeeping, vet science,
    etc, etc)

Why do we DO record books?
  • To teach record keeping skills
  • How to keep accurate records to personally
    evaluate your project accomplishments
  • To receive a year pin
  • To win awards
  • Comparison to a standard
  • Competitive against others in category

What awards can you win?
  • 4-H Year pin
  • County Medal
  • Ribbons

Whats the difference between county medals
year pins?
  • You get a year pin just for turning in a book
  • Number of years in 4-H on pin
  • COUNTY MEDALS are the pins by category that
    anyone with a score of 90 or higher on their
    project book receives

How do I know what category/project Im in?
  • The supply catalog determines what categories for
    county medals
  • The 4-H office can help you decide, too

How do I get started on a project book? OVERVIEW
  • Select a project book from the list complete it
  • Get the project record sheets complete them
  • Add
  • Photo page
  • Table of contents
  • Tabs
  • Put in green folder

Each project book should be in its own folder!
  • If you do a horse book, rabbit book wood
    working book, turn in 3 folders!

Why do we do the project record sheets?
  • There are so many project books and some are very
    unique
  • We needed a similar way to compare each book for
    judging
  • So the project record sheets were created for
    each age level

  • Level 1 (cloverbuds)
  • Age 5, 6, 7
  • Level 2
  • Age 8, 9, 10
  • Level 3
  • Age 11, 12, 13
  • Level 4
  • Age 14, 15, 16, 17, 18

  • July 31st each year

When do we get the awards?
  • Awards are given at 4-H Awards Night in September
  • Books are returned that night, too
