  • Sharp regional differences on account of soil
    quality and terrain.
  • 23 districts of the 32 districts averaging over
    400 mm annual rainfall.
  • In South Rajasthan over 60 are dependent on
    migration for their livelihood

Short Term Goals
  • Identify the key areas/districts and issues that
    need attention.
  • List potential NGOs (particularly in those key
    districts) based on inputs from our partners that
    may be approached to initiate programs.
  • Identify Saathis
  • Start dialogue with NGOs, media, local and state
    government and other organizations that might be
    able to provide input into AID efforts.
  • Technical help and guidance to create web
    presence for organizations. Example, MKSS

Long Term Goals
  • Produce papers on key insights and share them
    with the AID and our partners.
  • Identify and fund projects in collaboration with
    trusted NGOs in Rajasthan.
  • Develop a resource site on the state that will
    act as repository and reference for AID.
  • Develop a sense for how to improve policies
    pursued by the state.
  • Develop relationships with expatriate Rajasthani
    groups in the United States and elsewhere.
  • Cross-linkages with the water, women and
    pluralism cells.
