Breast Conserving Therapy Lumpectomy plus
Radiation Therapy

Breast Conserving Therapy
  • Having breast cancer DOES NOT mean you have to
    lose your breast (mastectomy)
  • Breast Conserving Therapy Lumpectomy plus
    radiation therapy
  • Breast Conservation Therapy is preferable to
total mastectomy because it provides survival
    equivalence while preserving the breast3
  • Breast Conserving Therapy is now a standard of
care for early stage breast cancer4
  • 20-year data published in the New England Journal
of Medicine reported that women with early-stage
breast cancer did just as well as those who had
    mastectomy 5,6

7
Mastectomy vs. Breast Conserving Therapy
  • Despite availability eligibility for Breast
Conserving Therapy, many women still get
    mastectomies
  • Over 40 of women who are eligible for Breast
Conserving Therapy still receive a mastectomy4
  • Why?
  • Inadequate information on options

8
Breast Conserving Therapy
  • Many breast cancers detected today are small,
early-stage cancers that can be treated with
