GITC TAC Update
  • H.Stüttgen (GITC Chair)
  • ICC 2008 19.05.2008

Content
  • GITC Update
  • Workhops
  • Tutorials
  • Review Process
  • Symposia
  • Policy Dissemination

3
Workshops
  • Mini-Conferences before or after main programs on
    hot topics consisting of
  • invited talks (keynotes)
  • panels
  • short papers (open review process)
  • peer reviewed papers
  • in a sense workshops can also serve as incubators
    for future symposia
  • typically 1 day, but half day is possible
  • peer reviewed papers of all workshops of any
GC/ICC will appear go to IEEE exPLORE and appear
on a Workshops Proceedings CD, so they are
    acceptable publications
  • Contacts are Heater Yu and Mike Devetsikiotis

4
Tutorials
  • number of tutorial participants has been
decreasing, GITC Tutorial working group (Abbas
Jamalipour, Andrzej Jayczek.) have been looking
    to review tutorials
  • Selection process
  • 2 stage proposal process w.short proposals
  • solicitation
  • long proposals
  • selection guidelines based on experience of
    previous GC/ICC
  • possible cancellation up to 4 weeks before the
    conf. due to
  • insufficient registrants
  • lack of cooperation of instructors with the
    tutorial chair
  • Quality monitoring
  • participant feedback
  • instructor and material
  • topic interest
  • ....

5
Review Process
  • Stefano Bregni has written up a standard review
    process
  • this defines a consistent process across symposia
    and conferences

6
1.Symposium on Selected Areas in Communications
  • Sponsors TCs supporting areas not represented in
    the other standard
    symposia, e.g.

  • TC II,
  • TC TactComm,
  • MMC TC,
  • TAOS
  • new sub-committees
  • This serves as an incubator for emerging topics.
The topic list will vary from time to time,
topics which consistently draw a large number of
submissions should be covered by a separate
symposium - either as new symposium or be
integrated into one of the existing symposia.
  • The topic list below is an example from ICC09
  • Access Systems and Networks (Powerline) (TC PLC)
  • Vehicular networks
  • Cognitive Networks
  • Home Networking (MMC TC)
  • Data Storage (TC DS)
  • Situation Management,

Summary
  • List of standard symposia for GC/ICC
conferences has been defined by GITC and should
    be followed by future conferences
  • List of
  • sponsoring TCs
  • rough area descriptions
  • proposed and presented to TAC (ICC 08, ICC07) for
comment until 8/31/08, to be decided by GITC at
    GC08
  • objective is a stable structure with minimum
overlap and a managable symposium side (not too
    small, not too big)
  • TCs cooperate in organizing symposia, no one TC
    owns any symposium
  • slow evolution of symposia and slightly faster
evolution of areas is foreseen, but should happen
    in a controlled manner not
  • information on the website - summary PPT and
handbook for future chairs is under preparation
