5Lab Schedule
- 9 labs.
- 2 Lab Practical (Midterm and Final).
- One make up lab.
6Attendance
- Required to be attend all the labs including the
pre-lab lecture on your specific day. - Attendance will be recorded.
- Dont miss more than 2 labs.
- If conflict or emergency arises please see me to
change the lab section. - Unauthorized lab switching is not allowed.
7Lab Report Policies
- You have to submit lab report for each lab. We
have TEN lab reports. - Each lab report carries 20 points.
- Submit the lab report on the same day. No take
home.
8Lab Report Policies
- Late submission will get you less points.
- You will be loosing 3 points if you submit one
day late and the following days also.
9Lab Report Policies
- You CANNOT submit your lab report for the
particular lab, If you are absent.
10Cheating
- Is not allowed
- Given a ZERO for the particular lab.
- Or ultimately FAIL the course if you are caught
cheating again.
11What are all Cheating???
- Copying the data from your neighbors without
doing experiment or without my knowledge. - Manipulating the results.
- Leaving the lab at half way without notification.
- There is NO excuse for cheating.
12Safety Glass
- Goggles must be worn at all times during the lab
hours. - You can wear contact lenses in the lab but you
still need to wear safety goggles. - Goggles is your expense!
13Foot Wears
- Please Dont use foot wear which exposes your
toes like sandals and high heels. - Chemicals and broken glass ware follow the laws
of gravity and fall to the floor!
14Tie Long Hairs
- Hair tends to catch fire easily.
- Please tie your long hair to prevent an errant
flame igniting a part of your body!
15Food
- Dont eat during lab hours.
- Anything ingested during lab could be
contaminated with dangerous chemicals.
16Drinks
- Not only food, drinks like Coke, Pepsi, Tea,
Coffee and even Water! in not allowed inside the
lab.
17Smoking
- Chemistry lab contain lots of flammable items.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited during lab hours.
18Eye Wash
- If you get any chemical at all in your eye,
immediately begin rinsing it in the eye wash,
holding your eye open. - I or Your TA or another student will come to your
assistance and help you ascertain the seriousness
of the exposure.
19Safety Shower
- The safety shower should be used when a chemical
splattered over a persons body and clothes.
20Fire
- The fire extinguisher should be used when a fire
has spread throughout the lab. - The fire alarm should be touched when a fire is
not able to contained by the extinguisher.
21Personal Items
- Keep your personal items such as book bags,
purses and coats away from the lab benches.
22Handling Chemicals
- Do not remove the chemical if it is inside the
hood. - Do not pour the chemical directly from the
container when you weigh. - 1. Use Spatula if it is a solid
- 2. Use Pasteur pipettes if it is a liquid

- Do not spill the chemicals around the balance
especially hygroscopic solids like NaOH,
anhydrous CaCl2. - Do not contaminate the chemicals and it may
affect the results for the people who will be
using next day or next to you. - 1. Do not put back the excess compound into
the container. Consider them as waste.
24Waste Disposal
- Do not drain any chemical waste through sink
unless we tell you. - 1. We have Separate Container for each waste
like organic volatiles and acid waste - 2. Broken Glass goes to Separate Container not
to the trash - 3. Any solid waste cannot go to trash.
25Dont mess-up
- Messing Up lab arise from
- 1. Not reading the procedure properly.
- 2. Not adding the Right amount of Reagents.
- 3. Not adding the Right reagent.
- Incase if you mess up at the beginning, restart
the experiment.

27Check In Policies
- Check all the glass wares thoroughly.
- Return and get the new glass wares if it is
- 1. Broken
- 2. Not working properly
- If you have any glass wares which is not in the
list or in excess, return to us immediately. - Make sure you have all of your equipment in your
drawer and lock it properly.
28Have a Great Lab
- No Play during lab hours.
- Work Defensively!
- Never do any Unauthorized Experiment or Reaction.
- Report to me all the injuries.
- Always remember that Your Safety and Lab Safety
are the first priority.
