• All solids share 2 important characteristics
• Have a definite shape
• Have a definite volume.
• Particles are packed closely together.
• The particles vibrate in place.
• Arranged in repeating patterns called CRYSTALS.

LIQUIDSa slippery when wet

• All liquids share 2 important characteristics
• DO NOT have definite shape.
• Have definite volume.
• The particles are free to move around one
  another.
• Some liquids flow easier than others, known as
  VISCOSITY.

GASESa light experience

• All gases share 2 important characteristics
• DO NOT have definite shape.
• DO NOT have definite volume.
• The particles are not arranged in any set pattern
  like solids.
• Gas particles will spread out to fill its
  container evenly.

• Very rare phase found on Earth.
• Plentiful throughout the universe.
• Made of small highly electrically charged
  particles.
