• Work fulltime - 16 hour study blocks on weekends

Preparation

• Prepare and send handouts for copying
• Include powerpoint/overheads (after the class!)
• Upload extra information to website
• Use discussion site to get to know student cohort
• Read local newspapers online for local context
• Check for classroom internet connection, laptop,
  projector
• Files/slides on CD, USB and email
• Over-prepare
• Introduce yourself personal as well as
  professional
• Respect for qualifications

Personal preparation

• Check for dialup or wireless connection for
  laptops, or business centre
• Business rather than boutique hotel close to
  class
• ATMs for cash
• Keep receipts for reconciliation
• Carry-ons - essential class notes change of
  clothes (lost luggage)
• Laptop need to remove from carry-on luggage
  spot security checks (allow extra time)
• Consider using Centra for pre- and post-class
  interaction
• Pre-assignment Chatroom
• Preparation is critical

General points

• Lots of small group work
• Consider class presentations at the end build
  the energy focus
• Use local experiences/context as teaching
  examples
• Address assessment tasks FIRST students wont
  focus until you do!
• Encourage completion of CEI
• Tell them about email-redirect (MyUniSA)
• Explain acronyms eg ExperienceBank, Learning
  Connection, MyUniSA, CEI
• Concentrated classes help to streamline links
  between topics
• Be a tourist take time out to relax
• Accept student invitations (eg family baptism)
• Attend graduations if possible
• Recognise their expertise (eg DDP)
• Interact with colleagues
• Future postgrads/tutors
• Enormous personal reward, develops international
  perspective being out of known-comfort-zone and
  hard work
