Meetings in 2002
Organization in 2002
  • Chair of management board (Juan Alcaraz)
  • Analysis coordinators (Juan Alcaraz, SM)
  • Analysis sub-group coordinators
  • Three reviews of all analyses (2 to 4 days)
  • Monday meetings of sub-group coordinators,
off-line experts, Monte Carlo production, to
    organize/review the weekly activity
  • Regular WW and two-photon group meetings
  • Analysis meetings when needed (1 or 2 monthly)

3
Papering in 2002
  • WW and two-photon analyses are discussed in
  • sub-group meetings first and then in analysis
  • meetings
  • Other analyses are discussed at analysis
    meetings
  • When deemed final, draft are prepared and
  • discussed with prof. Ting
  • Paper draft are processed by an editorial board
  • with internal referees (chair SM)
  • After two-four meeting they are released to all
  • institute-leaders for final comments and sent to
  • Physics Letters

4
Activity in 2002
  • Produce almost all Monte Carlo still needed for W
physics (complex QCD and higher order
    electroweak effects, millions of events)
  • Prepare the transition of the software to the
CERN linux cluster after dismission 31/12/2002 of
    the former L3 supercomputer
  • Identify person-power pitfalls and optimise human
    resources (leaving students, post-docs) to
complete analyses before departure, or leave
    enough information after departure.

5
13 papers published in 2002
  • Search for a Higgs Boson Decaying into
    Two-Photons at LEP.
  • Inclusive D- Production in Two-Photon
    Collisions at LEP.

7
Meetings in 2003
Organization in 2003
  • Chair of management board and analysis
    coordinator (SM)
  • Analysis sub-group coordinators
  • No big changes wrt 2002
  • Three long review of all activities (before
    winter/summer conferences and in fall)
  • Monday scheduling meetings
  • Regular WW and two-photon group meetings
  • Analysis meetings when needed

8
Activity in 2003
  • Complete in the first months all Monte Carlo
    production
  • Complete/publish the main-stream subjects
  • W Cross section, mass and couplings
  • Fermion pair production
  • Single photon production
  • Main SUSY searches
  • Running of electromagnetic coupling constant
  • Complete as many as possible of the other
    analyses
  • Gross estimate of 70 physics subjects
  • Reasonable hopes of 30 publications

9
Outlook
  • Still a lot of physics that might/will not be
    studied for lack of resources.
  • Do all efforts to recover information from
    almost-completed analyses, complete what possible
    and publish it.
  • Preparing a plan for dissolving the collaboration
    (SM)
  • Review process for long-term analyses
  • Reaction to possible new ideas
  • Publication of data in a form usable by future
    experiments/theorists
  • Expect high activity (by few FTE) till Summer
    conferences 2004
