small territory. However, due to its strategic
location, brands like Subway base their regional
headquarters in Singapore. Number of Franchisees
in Singapore about 30,000 franchisees Sales
turnover of the Singapore-based franchises (both
local foreign) is approx. 15 of the total
domestic retail sales volume. The total market
value of Singapores retail sector is estimated
at 36 billion (including the education
sector) for year 2005, giving the franchise
sector an annual turnover of about S5.48 billion
( approximately US3.9billion). LEGAL FRAMEWORK
There are no specific laws in Singapore governing
franchising. The general laws of Singapore may
affect the enforceability of the franchise
agreement, for example, the Competition Act.

Year and Promising Franchisor. - For the International Franchisor of the Year,
this is the 2nd year in running. - The purpose of the awards is give various
international brands an opportunity to present
and showcase their concepts at the FLAsia
Exhibition. - Nominees of the award receive positive feedback
at the exhibition, while some even manage to

_______________________ - Franchise Management Specialist Diploma Program
with Singapore Ngee Ann Polytechnic, first intake
graduated in 2005. This year is the 3rd intake.
This program is open to the locals and
foreigners. - Fundamentals of Franchise Management (FFM) course
moving into its 14th intake. We have 2 intake
each year in April and October. Thus far has
trained over 250 attendees from Singapore,
Malaysia and Vietnam. - FLA (Singapore) provide regular seminars and
workshops on various interesting topics that are
beneficial and essentials to our members
especially when they are embarking on regional
and international expansion.

Opportunities in China, Japan Singapore - an
Industry Survey Project supported by Asia Pacific
Economic Cooperation (APEC) to conduct in-dept
study on the regulations on franchising
operations, provide knowledge of best case
practices in the franchising field as well as
franchising opportunities in APEC economies of
China, Japan and Singapore.
