An additional gearset in a manual transmission or
a mechanical unit that bolts to the rear of the
transmission.

Transmission Overdrives

• Reduces engine speed 30 while still maintaining
  the same road speed.
• An overdrive works satisfactorily provided
• That the engine has sufficient power to propel
  the car in overdrive gear without lugging.
• That reasonable road speed is maintained
• That the road is fairly level
• An overdrive will not guarantee higher top speeds.
