CSREES morphing to The National Institute of
Food and Agriculture NIFA
  • The 2008 Farm Bill authorized the creation of a
new agency, the National Institute of Food and
    Agriculture.
  • All current authorities administered by CSREES
will be transferred to the new agency.
  • The transition will be complete by October 1,
    2009.

4
CSREES morphing to The National Institute of
Food and Agriculture NIFA
  • The National Institute of Food and Agriculture
will be a scientific agency that will raise the
    profile of agricultural science, including
    research, education and extension

5
CSREES morphing to The National Institute of
Food and Agriculture NIFA
  • Advance knowledge and science of food,
agriculture, human health and well-being, the
    environment and communities.
  • Be relevant to its stakeholders and respond to
regional and national needs by creating flexible
and efficient programs with the input of
    stakeholders.
  • Promote understanding and appreciation of science
    in the public sector.
  • Use peer and merit review processes to ensure the
federal investment in agricultural science is of
the highest quality and directed to the best
    purposes.
  • Provide program access to all customers and
assure civil rights and equal opportunity to
staff, partners and beneficiaries of the work.
  • Use processes that are transparent and
    accountable, employing stakeholder input to
    ensure programs promote effectiveness and
    efficiency.
  • Partner with high quality researchers, educators

  • Assist the Under Secretary in developing a
roadmap for agricultural research, education, and
    extension, which will identify major
    opportunities and knowledge gaps receive
    stakeholder recommendations and incorporate
    other roadmaps

Changes in Reporting - CRIS
Changes in Reporting - REEport
One Solution
CRIS
REEport
  • Primarily a text based system
  • Limited to no search ability
  • Updated web based reporting
  • Will be housed in house
  • Data security
  • Talk to CREEMS and POW
  • Searchable in Google via REEIS
  • Pre-populate forms from our data bases

9
Guiding Principles
  • Every investment is reported
  • Report once and only once, and use the
    information reported
  • Meet requirements of federal reporting
  • Information of value to us and the grantees
  • Capture Post Award Termination data
  • Ability to answer detailed questions across
    functions
  • All program and project applications are
    submitted through eGrants
