  • Dr. Bruce Murray has resigned as chair of Program
    Management Committee and Dr. Ian Etches has
    assumed that responsibility.
  • Dr. Etches also chairs our Transfusion Medicine
    QA Committee
  • Dr. Anurag Saxena, chair Hematology QA Committee
    will act as chair for CCQLM AP Working Group
    for 2007

  • Program Changes
  • Creating a new database/program to streamline
    processes anticipate improvements by year-end
  • We are moving! The Research Centre on the U of R
    campus will serve as the home for the new
    Saskatchewan Disease Control Laboratory and
    Diagnostic QA of College of Physicians and
    Surgeons of Saskatchewan. Anticipated move was
    scheduled for April 2008, however the delay could
    be as much as one-year.

  • Point-of-Care Testing
  •  
  • POLICY
  • All POCT shall be held to the same standard as
    clinical laboratory testing regardless of where
    examination is performed. The healthcare
    professional performing the test is accountable
    and responsible for
  • a. Evaluation and selection of instrumentation
    and procedures,
  •  
  • b.             Training and certification of
    personnel,
  • There shall be centralized coordination of the
    POCT training program by designated, qualified
    personnel.
  •  
  • c. Establishment of quality control protocols,
  • Shall include external proficiency testing
    participation, daily QC and documentation
  •  
  • d. Test protocols, equipment maintenance and
    troubleshooting records,
  •  
  • e.  Protocols for test requisitioning and result
    reporting, and active review of results by POCT
    director or designee. The report must be
    identified as a POCT result
  •                    Setting up policies regarding
    instrument maintenance and supplies.

  • Our program has embraced the CLSI fundamentals
    for implementing a quality management system in
    the clinical laboratory.
  • Promoting laboratories to adopt and many regions
    are purchasing a copy and implementing the
    practice.
  • Sask Health has endorsed our peer-review process
    for accreditation
