What is Respondus?
  • Respondus is a software program for creating and
    managing exams that can be printed directly to
    paper or published to eCollege

What can Respondus do?
  • Import Publishers Testbank Questions for upload
    to eCollege
  • Import exam questions from word processors files
    for upload to eCollege
  • "Spell check" an entire exam file
  • Add tables, bulleted lists, font changes, and
    enhanced formatting (e.g. bold, italics) just
    like in a word processor
  • Insert mathematical and scientific symbols using
    the Respondus Equation Editor or Math Type
  • Embed graphics, audio, and video without writing
    or viewing the underlying HTML

  • There are 5 major tabs
  • Start
  • Edit
  • Settings
  • Preview and Publish
  • Retrieval and Reports
  • To start from scratch select Create a new
    Respondus file from the Start menu

Creating a new file
  • Enter a name for the test.
  • Provide a description for the test
  • Make sure Exam is selected

Editing your Exam
  • There are 7 types of questions that can be asked
  • Multiple choice
  • True and False
  • Essay
  • Matching
  • Fill in the blank
  • Multiple responses (multiple choice question with
    more than one correct response)
  • Algorithmic

Adding Questions
  • Each question needs a title. Students do not
    need to see the question title.
  • Titles should be descriptive
  • Use titles for future reference
  • This is only done if you are typing in a
    question.
  • Question wording is the question as the students
    will see it.

  • There are several options available from the task
    bar to enhance your questions
  • Bold, Italics, and Underline options
  • There is sub and superscript
  • There is an equation editor
  • It is also possible to add images, web links and
    HTML
  • It is possible to add lists, tables etc.

Adding questions
  • Once you have the question written, enter the
    available answers (stems)
  • Once all the stems are entered, select the
    correct answer using the Correct answer drop down
    box.
  • Assign a point value for the question.
  • Click the Preview button to see how the question
    would appear to the student.
  • Once the question is complete select Insert into
    List

Preview and Publish Settings
  • There are three Publish and Preview options
  • Preview allows you to check each questions
    accuracy
  • Publish to eCollege Sends the exam to your
    eCollege course
  • Print Options allow you to print your exam

  • Previewing is a great way to ensure all your
    questions are correct
  • Select the Preview the File button
  • If necessay select the Modify Item button to
    modify a question
  • Print Options
  • Print just the exam, the exam with the answer key
    or only the answer key

Publish to eCollege
  • From the Publish to eCollege tab complete the
    following
  • Type of Publish
  • Publish to a single course
  • Batch publish to multiple courses
  • Choose an existing server or add a new server
  • eCollege server type in User ID
  • Settings
  • Server www.iowacconline.com
  • User your log in
  • Press Next

Respondus Test Bank
  • The Respondus Test Bank Network provides
    instructors a central location for obtaining
    publisher test banks that are in Respondus
    format.
  • Test banks for the leading textbooks in higher
    education are available, and new test banks are
    continually being added by publishers.
  • Respondus users who adopt a participating
    textbook for their course can obtain the
    Respondus-formatted test bank at no charge.

Requesting a testbank
  • Instructors who adopt a participating publisher
    textbook can obtain the Respondus-formatted test
    bank by following three easy steps
  • Go to www. respondus.com/testbank/search/php
  • and search for the textbook that has been
    adopted.
  • 2. Fill out the adoption request form and
    submit it.
  • 3. Once the publisher partner has
    authenticated the request, you will receive an
    e-mail that contains the information needed to
    download the test bank using your Respondus
    software.

Downloading the testbank
  • The e-mail you receive from the publisher will
    include the file code and password needed to
    download the Respondus-formatted test bank.
  • Start your Respondus software, select Open, and
    click the ?Download Test Bank? button. Then enter
    the information the publisher provided to you.
  • The test bank will download directly to your
    Respondus Projects folder.

  • Once the publisher test bank is downloaded, the
    easiest way to select questions for an exam is to
    use the Respondus "Exam Wizard."

  • After the exam is created, it takes just seconds
    to publish it to an eCollege course. You can even
    print the exam.

Retrieve an exam
  • Respondus will retrieve an exam from a course
    management system, which then allows the file to
    be edited, published to another online course, or
    printed using Resondus.

  • From the Retrieval and Reports menu, select the
    retrieve tab
  • Choose the CMS server from the list
  • Choose the course from the list
  • Select the exam from the list
  • Enter a name for the Respondus file that will be
    created once the exam is retrieved
  • Click the Retrieve button to complete the
    download process and to create the new Respondus
    file
