What is AP?
  • University-level courses taught in high schools
    by high school teachers
  • An international program administered by the
    College Board in the United States.
  • Students write standardized AP Exams set by the
    College Board and graded by the Educational
    Testing Service

  • Study courses in greater depth - comparable to
    introductory university level
  • Develop self-discipline study skills essential
    for academic success
  • Get a head start on post-secondary studies - earn
    credit or standing for university
  • Have greater choice in courses at university
  • Save on tuition fees books

Responsibilities of AP Students
  • A willingness to actively engage with
    sophisticated concepts
  • A willingness to be judged by rigorous,
    university level standards
  • A willingness to complete longer and more complex
    nightly assignments
  • A willingness to complete the AP examination in
    May

The AP Exam
  • Administered in May
  • Cost 100
  • Approximately three hours long
  • Composed of multiple-choice and
  • free-response questions
  • Free-response questions graded by college
    professors and AP teachers in June

The AP Exam
  • AP Examination grades range from 1 to 5
  • Reports are sent in July to students, high
    schools, and colleges designated by individual
    students.
  • High schools receive a report in August.

University Credit
  • Most universities worldwide grant credit and/or
    placement for students who do well on their AP
    exam.
  • University credit is not automatic. It must be
    applied for.
