2Toolbox Tuesdays and Thursdays
On the 4th of December 2008 CSR Europe launched
20 CSR Tools which were the compilation of 18
months of work by CSR Europe, its Members and
Partners and the European Alliance for CSR
through the CSR Laboratories. CSR Laboratories
are action oriented projects with the objective
of bringing together business practitioners and
stakeholders to share experiences and expertise
to address key socio-economic challenges. CSR
Europe has now launched Toolbox Tuesdays and
Thursdays as a new service to its Members and
National Partner Organizations. The purpose of
these conference calls is to give CSR Europe
Members and NPOs a light informal training on
the individual CSR Tools launched as part of CSR
Europe's Toolbox in December 2008.

3Eco Efficiency
Europe currently wastes, at a minimum, 20 of its
energy due to inefficient use
Eco-efficiency improves environmental
performance, helps companies to pre-empt market
and regulatory trends, and contributes to
long-term business sustainability
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are
facing continuous pressure on cost containment
for maintaining business sustainability. Very
often the initial capital costs of investing in
efficient energy alternatives are quite high, but
the experiences of large industries prove that
such investments can have a very short return on
investment.

4- Eco-Energy-Efficiency
- Why
- The increasing demand of Electrical Energy
requires the installation of additional power
plants. - The reduction of pollution requires an
extensive use of renewable energy plants. - The energy efficiency improvement, compensates
the equivalent capacity demand without additional
pollution. - The improvements on energy efficiency can
act as a great green energy power plant.

5- Tool Eco-Energy-Efficiency check-up
- In the contest of business sustainability the
investments in energy efficiency improvements
have seldom high priority. - The industries which have invested in this
field can prove that such investments have a very
short pay-back. - The Eco-Efficiency Lab has developed a tool to
transfer the best known practices from
successful companies to SMEs. - The tool runs on SODALITAS server and is
available - at www.sodalitas.it .

Total Environment Management in ST
- On 1995 ST issued its Environmental Decalogue
- The 2nd Commandment states that every plant
- has to reduce total energy consumption per
- production unit by at least 5 per year.
- The 3rd Commandment states that every plant has
to - reduce CO2 emissions per production unit by
- at least 5 per year,
- adopt whenever possible, renewable energy
- sources ( wind, hydroelectric, photovoltaics
- and thermal solar).

7A High Tech Company Witness STMicroelectronics
The Approach
- Strong leadership by top management.
- Characterized the consumptions and identified
the - Best Practices applicable to each site.
- Promoted a positive attitude through the
organization - in order to share objectives and commitment to
results. - A huge number of energy efficiency improvement
- activities identified and implemented.
- The average investment rate on efficiency
improvement - projects, from 1995, has been 25 USD Million
per year.

20European Toolbox Roadshow
From February 2009-January 2010, CSR Europe will
be coordinating in cooperation with National
Partners, national sessions in various geographic
areas in Europe as part of a wider European
Toolbox Road show. The objective is to further
disseminate the laboratory tools, as well as to
equip companies and stakeholders participating in
national sessions with relevant, useful and
practical CSR tools. Further Information
