Immune Epitope Database and Analysis Resource
(IEDB)

• The IEDB is a project hosted by scientists at the
  La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology
  (LIAI), with support from the National Institute
  of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
• While not strictly limited, the current focus is
  presenting information that facilitates the
  dissemination of immune epitope information, the
  generation of new research tools, diagnostic
  techniques, vaccines and therapeutics for
  emerging and re-emerging diseases.

(IEDB)

• Epitope-based techniques to allow the accurate
  and precise characterization of immune responses.
• To understand and quantitate instances of immune
  responses in which the microbe is able to
  overcome the host, or establish chronic
  infection.
• Enhance immune response.

IEDB

• Epitopes recognized in the course of a natural
  infection, or as the result of vaccination.
• Development of bioinformatics tools to analyze,
  model, and predict immune responses.
• Central repository of available information
  regarding the key epitopes recognized by the
  immune system.

Existing Epitope Databases

• The IEDB is not the only epitope database.
• The IEDB was able to capitalize on the
  experiences of the other database and
  incorporates features of many of the other
  databases.

IEDB-Distinguishing Features

• Priority focus on category A-C pathogens
• Database dimensions compatible with the inclusion
  of a large number of records
• Includes T cell and B cell epitope data from both
  human and other animal species
• Extensive annotation allowing for customizable
  querying of the database
• Inclusion of all available patent data
