Goal of the TRIUMPH Program
  • Recruit talented, productive, well trained Ph.D.s
    and train them through didactic course work,
    clinical rotations and a unique mentorship
    program to pursue clinical and/or translational
    research.

Requirements of the Program
  • Didactic course work (13 units)
  • To be completed in the first year
  • Clinical Rotations (5)
  • To be completed in the second year
  • Seminars
  • Through out the 3 year program

Recruitment Criteria
  • Ph.D. from an accredited US Graduate Program
  • 2-3 high impact (i.e. gt5.5), first author
    publications
  • 2 page essay as to why they want to enter the
    program

Mentorship (continued)
  • Translational lab PI will be chosen upon entering
    into the program
  • Clinical Research PI will be chosen at the end of
    the first year
  • The mentoring team will meet with the TRIUMPH
    post-doc every six months to go over progress

Expectations
  • Pass all the didactic course work
  • Attend all the rotations and seminars
  • Publish 2-3 high impact papers by the end of the
    3 year training

Commitment from GSBS
  • Certificate issued by GSBS to each TRIUMPH
    post-doc who satisfactorily completes each of the
    requirements of the program

Costs
  • Post-doc will be funded at NIH level 0 or 1
    35k/year 28 FB Tuition (first year only)
    49,000 a year
  • The lab the post-doc will pursue their studies
    will pay for the supplies

Funding
  • GSK (500,000) dispersed over 5 years
  • 2 post/docs per year will be funded
  • Have to get matching funding from other sources
    to continue the program
  • Applying for T32 from NIH
  • Foundation-Development funds
  • Other sources of funds????

Long Term Goal
  • Produce highly competitive candidates for Faculty
    positions at academic institutions or leadership
    positions at pharmaceutical companies
