2Brief History
The UK FSP Support Group was founded in 1991 by a
lady to support her affected husband and son. Our
membership is now nationwide and continues to
expand. In 2005 we became a registered UK
Charity. This earns us more respect from the
public or any organisation we may target for
support and funding.
3How we operate
- Most of our members pay an annual subscription of
15 - Our members receive a newsletter every three
months - We have an annual meeting where medical
professionals address us. There is also plenty
of social time for members to get to know one
another - We have regional meetings where members are
encouraged to get to know one another and share
information. - We provide an information booklet to all our
members - We provide financial assistance to members for
mobility aids or anything that may improve their
quality of life - We currently have a committee of 6 who manage and
organise all Group activities and procedures - We support research programmes where our funds
allow

- 3000 for Dr Evan Reid at the Cambridge Institute
for Medical research to help fund his research
into the cellular functions of proteins involved
in causing HSP - Supporting Dr Jon Marsden with his research into
physiotherapy applied to HSP at the National
Hospital
- Grants for Members
- During the past 12 months eight members have
applied for and received grants. - Mobility aids, FES assessment and specialised
software are examples of items attracting grants.

- Over 15 of our members now use FES mainly on
account of the Groups communication. - Government Benefits
- Members are made very aware of what financial
assistance they may be entitled to and assisted
with their claim
