• Definition
• Surgical removal via thoracotomy of entire lung
• Thoracotomy

• Pulmonary arteries and veins ligated

Lobectomy

• Definition
• Surgical removal via thoracotomy of a lobe of a
  lung

Preoperative Care

• Relieve Anxiety and Promote Client Participation.
• Explain procedure and help provide comfort for
  the patient.
• Teach about the up-coming Chest Drainage System
  that will be used (not in Pneumonectomy).

Post Operative Care

• Chest tubes (except pneumonectomy)
• Placing client on non operative side
• Oxygen therapy
• Drug therapy
• Bronchodilators
• Mucolytics
• Antibiotics
