Thesis
  • Development of a biomedical informatics
    application with some form of novelty, such as an
    existing computer program implemented on a new
    platform or an application that extends the
    functionality of an existing application
  • A new investigation or replication of a previous
    investigation, such as information needs or use,
    evaluation and organizational or management
    issues.

General Guidelines
  • 18 hours of coursework must be completed before
    commencing thesis work
  • The student will select a Thesis Advisor and
    assemble a Thesis Advisory Committee prior to the
    beginning of the first stage
  • First Stage Background/Research
  • Second Stage Work/Data Collection
  • Third Stage Data Analysis/Thesis Defense

  • A non-independent project in biomedical
    informatics that will be performed under the
    close supervision of the capstone advisor.

  • Developing a project that fits into larger

General Guidelines

  • Two Separate Committees

Thesis and Examination Committees
  • Each committee shall consist of at least three
    members
  • The members must not all be from the same
    department or institute
  • They should be members of the graduate faculty.

  • A member may occasionally be selected who does
    not have an association with the University if
    that individual is able to provide some area of
    expertise not available on campus. A CV will be
    required for any non-graduate faculty member.

Printing and Binding
  • Three copies of the write-up required
  • All copies must be of high quality, 20, bond,
    acid-free paper, single-sided
  • All typing should be double-spaced (except
    footnotes)
  • Footnotes should be single-spaced with a
    double-space between footnotes
  • 1 ½ inch left hand margin
  • 1 inch top and right hand margins
  • Not less than 1 inch bottom margin

  • Submit at least three complete copies, separated
    by colored paper, to library no later than May
    15th.
  • Make appointment with Andrew Hamilton to submit
    copies (4-7527)
  • Binding is 90.00 (30 per copy)
  • Submit binding receipt to program administrator
