5Review of Quadlog Safety PLC Basics
- What is QUADLOG? It is the safety PLC design for
potentially dangerous applications. - Â
- Such as
- Emergency shutdown systems
- Gas detection systems
- Fire detection systems
- Burner management systems
- IMPT POINT USED EXTENSIVELY AT CDF
- Â
6CRYOGENICCONTROLS IDEA
- THERE WILL BE TWO (2) CONTROL PACKAGES USED IN
THIS FACILITES FOR CRYOGENIC PURPOSES - Standard Tevatron Process Control Package
- VME Based, POWER PC
- All helium I/O resides here, that is compressor
and refrigerator systems - Any non-critical Hydrogen affiliated I/O may
potentially reside here - 2) Specialized Safety PLC
- Used for Hydrogen I/O, FiRUS, ODH, flammable gas
7Â QUADLOG has built-in features provide maximum
safety and reliability. Â QUADLOG exceeds the
safety of triple modular redundant (TMR) system
with greater system reliability and extensive
diagnostics. Â QUADLOG also incorporates
continuous PID control, analog I/O, open
communications, and a variety of operator
interface options not typically available from a
PLC.
8QUADLOG SYSTEM FRONT OF MODULES
9QUADLOG Module        Â
10The QUADLOG critical control system offers Â
Increased safety with proven fail-safe
characteristics and protected outputs  Higher
system availability with the fault tolerance of
quad redundancy, special self-testing software,
and unique common cause defense mechanisms Â
Improved reliability with greater strength
against industrial stressors and isolation
between I/O subsystems  Decreased start-up
time and minimized downtime with online
diagnostics and detailed error reporting Â
Easier integration with other control systems via
open communications
11QUADLOG CRITICAL SPECS
12LOCATION
DCS of Hydrogen Experimental Hall and Manifold
Room will be install in Helium Refrigeration
Building. (Explosion proof for Class I, Division
I, Group B)
13PROTECTED OUTPUT
QUADLOG Protected Outputs ensure no single
component failure can prevent a mandatory trip. Â
14Redundant control
If On-line diagnostics detect a failure in one
side of the system (including input, processor
and output), the other side will maintains
control automatically and system remains
available
