Why is this needed?
  • Our aim is to improve the quality of time spent
by older adults at the Geriatrics clinic at BMC.
  • Older adults wait for an average of 20 minutes.
  • System should not only be entertaining but also
    informative.

3
Our Users
  • Primary Patients
  • Secondary Doctors and other staff
  • Tertiary BMC Management
  • Facilitators
  • Patients are over 65 years of age. Spoke
different languages and had very limited computer
    skills.

4
Tasks
  • Patients expressed a desire to be able to play a
game. Most of them like to play card games.
  • Idea was to be able to combine a very simple game
    with information.
  • Patients wanted to get more health related
information. They said they would use magazines
    if available.
  • Idea was to be able to give users to view the
    body and get information.

5
Contd..
  • Patient complained that posts on the bulletin
board were too small to read.
  • Its so small, I can hardly read it
  • We tried to solve this problem by incorporating a
slideshow in the project. This slideshow replaces
    the bulletin board.

6
Design Considerations
7
Module 1 Playing a Game
  • A move is as simple as pressing a button.
  • The buttons are bigger in size to enable the
target user to press them easily.
  • The use of showing scores encourages the user to
take interest while playing the game.
  • The Font on the buttons and on the screen is
large enough for the target users to read.

8
Module 2 Health Information
  • Showing a picture of a Human body gives the
target users a better idea of which part of the
body they would be interested to learn about.
  • Use of selection of a specific part of the body
makes it easier for getting information about a
    specific part of the body.
  • Limited information is provided to the user to
maintain their interest and avoid the use of
    scrollbar.

9
Module 3 Slideshow
  • This module was designed to allow users to get
    helpful information without navigation through
the application. Just Sit Back and Read !!!
  • No interaction was required by default, but if
users want to get information in detail,
    navigation options were available.
  • The Font of the slides was large enough and
mostly pictures were used for better
    understanding.

10
General Design Considerations
  • The Navigation menu was always shown for users to
navigate to any other module quickly.
  • The overall design of the application was kept
    consistent to avoid confusion.
  • Help menu was always provided to the users if
they get stuck up at any stage or module.
  • Pictures were used for better understanding.
  • Message boxes are displayed at correct places to
    confirm user action.

Demo

Prototype Evaluation
13
  • Paper Prototype
  • Real-time feedback on our prototype.
  • This application is user-centric and paper
prototype really helped in analyzing the basic
    problems.
  • Major findings
  • Positive feedback on overall design.
  • Playing game is difficult on paper.
  • Help not really used.
  • Simple instructions on each page.
  • Use of images rather than text.
  • Settings difficult for user to operate.

14
  • Heuristic Evaluation
  • Feedback of Heuristic evaluation from classmates
    helped.
  • Bigger button size, font size - ease of use of
    UI
  • Winning the game pop up - Mapping and Metaphors
  • After winning the message box does not give any
    options feedback
  • Difficulty in touching small parts in Anatomy-
    Grouping
  • Two clicks to flip a card Consistency
  • Replace the words Prev and Next by images -
    Speak the users language
  • Hover on body wont work on a touch screen

User Testing
  • Huge success than expected
  • User Comment Game too engrossing to notice any
    information
  • All three users played complete game
  • Many positive comments -
  • I would like to install the same game on my
    machine.
  • It is very informative especially. I always like
to read information on body parts. If I will get
a chance I can note down interesting points in my
    notes.
  • I enjoyed playing the game. Call me when you
finally deploy the application, I would like to
be the first user to use it.
  • I feel like going back to game.

19
  • Future Enhancements
  • Making information more visible in game.
  • Adding a demo to the help screen.
  • Overall look and feel of the application make
it more sleek and add more neutral colors.
