  • Use modify to narrow or broaden your original

  • May search by journal abbreviations and acronyms,
    e.g. j biol chem or JAMA
  • Also useful for browsing by authors last name

Connecting to Full-text Journals
  • Like ROGER, Melvyl allows you to connect to the
    full-text of a journal if we subscribe to the
    journal electronically.

Use Melvyl to connect to the online, e-journal
version of Journal of Economic Theory

Truncation Wildcards
  • To retrieve all forms of a word, type the root of
    the word followed by or ?
  • E.g. comput retrieves computer, computing,
    computation, etc.
  • and ? can also be used as placeholders
    (wildcards) anywhere in a word
  • E.g. neuroy retrieves neurology, neurobiology,
    neurochemistry, etc.

Updates
  • Update service will
  • Email you when a new catalog record matches your
    saved search
  • To create an Update
  • Sign In to Melvyl
  • Perform Search
  • View Previous Searches
  • Select search and click Create Update button
  • Fill in Update Service form and select GO

Saving Records Searches
  • Save records temporarily for one session only
  • Use save button
  • Save permanently in my workspace
  • You must first sign-in
  • Use save across sessions button at the item
    record or previous searches screens
  • Go to my workspace to view records or search
    histories

Session Time-out
  • Melvyl session will time out after 20 minutes of
    inactivity
  • Will lose search results and search history if
    you did not save to your workspace

Internet Browsers
  • New Melvyl works best with browsers IE 5.0 and
    Netscape 6.0 and above.
