artistanate). Became dictator of Florence. He was
banished in 1383.

- Giovannis son
- He lost all the money and was banished. With the
support of the people he was recalled in 1434. He
ruled the city as uncrowned king for the rest of

- Lorenzo was a poet, statesman, politician,
banker, patron of artists, writer, and
philosopher - Played an important role in Italian politics.
- Spent his time writing poetry and carnival songs.
- Did a lot of good things for the people.

homes by buying their work. - He was truly a man of the Renaissance.

12New Ideas they brought
- Improved the general ledger system by developing
the double-entry bookkeeping system for tracking
credits and debits. It first used by accountants
working for the Medici family in Florence. - Ferdinand created the armillary sphere which was
an instrument consisting of an arrangement of
rings, to show the relative positions of the
celestial equator, ecliptic, and other circles of
the clestial sphere.

17End of the Line
- On July 1, 1737 Gian, the last male Medici and
the Grand Duke at the time, died. - The remaining Medici was Anna Maria, and control
of Tuscany now passed to the Austrians. - She died in February 1743, thus ending the Medici
line
