Arizona Behavior Initiative

Laveen Hawks are
  • Safe
  • Caring
  • Honest
  • Responsible
  • Respectful

3
ISS
  • As part of our efforts to make students safe,
caring, honest responsible, and respectful, our
goal is to improve schoolwide behavior and
    decrease the number/frequency of students
    assigned to ISS.
  • ISS can only be assigned by the office.
  • Students can be assigned to ISS for fighting,
    stealing, damaging property, classroom
disruption, disrespect, threats or other severe
    behavior.

4
ISS
  • Students cannot be assigned to ISS to complete
homework. Teachers need to develop a buddy
system to deal with minor disruptions and
    homework issues.
  • Students need to be in their homerooms as much as
possible to be able to participate in
    instruction.
  • Students should perceive ISS as a negative place
to be, instead of a quiet place to work.
  • Students who have been assigned to ISS 3 times,
will be referred to the Behavior Team.

5
ISS
  • The ISS room will have a supply of student
    textbooks available for student use.
  • ISS students will receive a packet to complete
while in ISS. Students who have difficulty with
reading will receive assistance in reading the
packet. The packet must then be signed by the
    classroom teacher and parent.

6
Behavior Communication Form
  • The purpose of this form is to track difficult
behavior that is not severe enough to warrant
    ISS.
  • This form will incorporate the five Hawk
    expectations (safe, caring, honest, responsible,
    respectful)
  • Parent signature or documentation of phone call
    must be on the paper.
  • If a student receives 3 of these forms the forms
will be turned in to the principal. The
principal will meet with the student.

7
Cafeteria
  • Classes will have assigned tables.
  • During the first week of school, teachers will
take their class to the cafeteria to model
    appropriate behavior. Chant in unisonsafe,
    caring, honest responsible, respectful.
  • Classes will be dismissed by table when tables
    and floor are clean.

8
Activity Card
  • Students will be rewarded for positive behavior
choices (guess what? Safe, caring, honest,
    responsible, respectful) in the classroom,
cafeteria, on the playground and the bus. A
special activity will be scheduled each month.
  • To attend the activity each student will need a
    signed activity card.
  • Students cannot attend the special monthly
activity if they have been assigned to ISS for
    that month.

9
Fun Friday
  • All grade levels will implement the Fun Friday
    activity for positive behavior.
  • Each grade level will establish their own
criteria and set their own schedule for Fun
    Friday.
  • What is it?
  • How does it work?
  • Why? Why? Why?
  • Ill bet you thought we forgotsafe, caring,
    honest, responsible, respectful!

10
Hawk Feather Incentives
  • The purpose of this program is to reward positive
behavior choices on the playground during both
    recess and lunch.
  • Feathers are distributed by teachers and
    associates for exhibiting appropriate Hawk
behaviorthose five words again! We know you
    know them by now!
  • Feathers will be deposited in grade level boxes
    in the library.
  • Weekly and quarterly drawings will be held for
    special treats.
