What is Biometrics?

• Biometrics is the science of using digital
  technology to identify individuals based on the
  individuals unique physical and biological
  qualities. (Page)

Types of Technologies

• Voice System
• Error rates are minimal if the phone is used
  consistently
• no special hardware needed, so it is cheap
• Fingerprint System place finger on glass to be
  electronically imaged
• Multiple fingerprint each finger is unique
• decrease in error
• Retinal Scanning
• there is a 10 or higher failure to match
• Hand Finger Geometry electronic image of the
  shape of a hand/finger
• about 1 of the people cannot use hand geometry
  because of hand irregularities

• Iris Scanning black and white image of the
  persons eye is recorded from a distance
• very costly because it requires trained
  operators and good equipment
• Face Recognition
• difficult because some women wear veils
• it can be bought for under 100 for computers
  with digital cameras
• Automatic Signature Recognition Static and
  dynamic
• Static signature matches up the written
  signature
• dynamic signature looks at the hand movements
  while signing
