How To Be Thick Skinned And Love It.

Who are you?
4
The Elementary Principles of the World
  • You are what you do.
  • You are what people say and think about you.
  • You are what you have.
  • You are what you look like.
  • You are what you know.

5
  •
  • I am the salt of the earth. I am the light of
the world. I am a child of God (part of His
family). (see Rom. 816) I am part of the true
vine, a channel (branch) of His (Christs) life.
I am Christs friend. I am chosen and appointed
by Christ to bear His fruit. I am a slave of
righteousness. I am enslaved to God. I am a son
of God (God is spiritually my father). (see Gal.
    326 46) I am a joint-heir with Christ sharing
His inheritance with Him. I am a temple (home)
of God. His Spirit (His Life) dwells in me. I am
a joined (united) to the Lord and am one spirit
with Him. I am a member (part) of Christs body.
(see Eph. 530) I am a new creation (new
nature). I am reconciled to God and am a
minister of reconciliation. I am a son of God
and one in Christ. I am an heir of God since I am
a son of God. I am a saint. I am Gods
workmanship (handiwork) created (born anew) in
Christ to do His work that He planned beforehand
that I should do. I am a fellow citizen with the
rest of Gods people in His family. I am a
prisoner of Christ. I am righteous and holy. I am
a citizen of heaven and seated in heaven right
now (see Eph. 26) I am hidden with Christ in
God. I am an expression of the life of Christ
because He is my life. I am chosen of God, holy,
and dearly loved. I am chosen and dearly loved by
God. I am a son of the light and not of
darkness. I am a holy brother, partaker of a
heavenly calling. I am a partaker of Christ I
    share in His life
  •

Let God Define you!
6
  • For you have died and your life is hidden with
    Christ in God.
  • Col. 33

7
  • By union with Jesus Christ, we die the required
death in Him, thus the penalty is paid and sin
can never claim us again. We have thus died to
sin in the sense of paying its penalty. Its
presence and power still affect us but it cannot
    condemn us.
  • John MacArthur

9

  • How do I keep my emotions under control?

10
Thinker vs Feeler
  • 4 Truth Principles
  • Know the truth
  • Believe the truth
  • Act on truth
  • Feel truth

10
10
1
1
Thinker
Feeler
11
  • Step 1
  • Surrender

12
  • Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of
God, to present your bodies a living and holy
sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your
    spiritual service of worship.
  • Romans 121

13
  • 1. Reckon your flesh crucified.
  • 2. Surrender your rights.

14
  • Rights are things I have been made to believe
are mine, and that God owes me this. God does not
owe me anything. He gave me His own Son. There
is a large difference between what God chooses to
    give and what He owes.

15
  • We tend to cling to or hang on to each of the
following as rights in an effort to meet our own
    felt needs
  • To operate according to our feelings.
  • To a healthy body
  • To make my own plans
  • To choose where I Live
  • To choose my recreation

16
  • Success
  • To cling to the past
  • To my habits
  • Possessions
  • Reputation
  • Time
  • Defy authority
  • Acceptance
  • To know the will of God

17
  • To a happy home
  • To have no problems or difficulties
  • To take offense
  • To reap what I sow
  • To be right
  • To be loved
  • To have visible security
  • To be used of God
  • To see results

18
But scripture gives us only one right
  • The right to the Lord Jesus
  • and all that He is!

19
  • That One right is enough
  • To understand that one right
  • And all that it means
  • Is beyond all that i need.

Getting Control of Your Emotions
22
  • But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations,
    knowing that they produce quarrels.
  • 2 Timothy 223

23
  • Well it should have happened.
  • It could have happened.
  • Im gonna make it happen

24
Handling Your Emotions
  • Demands vs. Desires
  • demand something that has to be this way this
    way and no other way!
  •
  • desire something Id really like to see
happen, and Im going to give it my best effort,
but I know going into it that things beyond my
control can keep it from happening.
  •
  •

25
Handling Your Emotions
  • success (according to the world) measured
strictly on the outcome of our performance.
Based on level of income, education, job title,
    possessions, etc.
  •
  • success (according to God) accepting Gods
goal for our lives and by His grace becoming what
He has called us to be (Romans 828,29). Gods
purpose for us is to be conformed into the image
of Christ. So success is Christlikeness, which
is measured primarily by an attitude of total
dependence on God (Phil. 413John 155).

26
Godly Goals and Desires
  • Godly Goal Any specific orientation that
reflects Gods purpose for our lives that is not
dependent upon people, or circumstances that are
beyond our ability or right to control.
  • Godly Desire Any desired result that is
dependent upon the cooperation of other people,
the success of events, or favorable
    circumstances.

27
Goals vs Desires
  • Gods purpose for me is to be conformed to the
    image of Christ (Romans 828).

28
  • The only person I have the right to control is
me, and that is so hard that it is one of the
fruits of the Spirit. Self-control only comes as
I yield to the Spirit living the life of Jesus
    through me.

29
Godly Goal
  • It must be directly related to my walk with God.
  • I am the only one who can keep it from happening.
  • Everything else is a desire!

30
