Mission Objective Role
- Horticulture has been identified as one of the
Growth Engines which can steer our States economy
in the near future. Hence, Horticulture Firsts
mission is to make this vision possible through
more private participation. - To attract more investments into the Horticulture
Sector from Corporate, Companies, Entrepreneurs
and create a friendly investment environment,
explore every possible option in the horticulture
sector which may benefit the farmer to begin
with. - Marketing of Agri Export Zones.
- Prospecting for New Projects into the
Horticulture Sector. - Escort new project initiatives all through the
Implementation process. - Acting as information kiosk for Agri Export
Zones, Horticulture Processing and Marketing. - Preliminary screening of new project proposals.
- Conducting Crop Specific Buyer / Seller Meets and
facilitating Exporters, Traders Growers
Interface. - Incubating Pilot Projects in Horticulture
Processing. - Effectively co-ordinate / support other basic
sectors of the Department in marketing related
activities.

- General Scenario
- Most of our fruits and vegetables like Mangoes,
Sapora, Sweet Lime, Pomegranates, Papaya,
Chillies, Gherkins, etc are being exported to
overseas markets and up-country markets. But the
marketing arrangements are un-organised, the
cream is enjoyed by the middlemen. - Efforts made by the Department
- The Department has conducted Buyer / Seller Meets
for Mangoes, Pomegranates, Chillies, KP Onions.
The objective is to establish linkages among
Growers and Exporters, Importers and Large
Traders. These meetings have been successful and
shall be continued. - The Department also conducts Crop Specific shows
like Mango Show, Pomegranate Show, etc. - Trade-Leads This division extensively interacts
with market sources and maintains a database of
trade-leads and passes on to progressive growers
who can deliver. - This division also maintains market information
and disseminates to the stake holders as and when
necessary.

7Contract Farming
- Scenario
- Globally, Horticulture activity is market
oriented. Government of Andhra Pradesh desires to
promote market oriented horticulture through
contract farming. A Draft Contract Farming Policy
has been prepared for effective. Apart from the
policy document, the State Government has
abolished Market Cess for Exporters and
Processors under contract farming arrangements. - The Department has gone a step ahead in promoting
contract farming with more and more private
participation from Companies involved in direct
or indirect procurement of raw materials. -

10Horti Processing
- General Scenario
- Around 25 to 80 of the fresh produce is
processed in the world when compared to less than
4 average of entire country. There are 5198
Processing Units with an installed capacity of
21.10 lakh MT with a production of 9.9 Lakh MT.
There are around 70 Processing Units in Medium
Large Enterprises segment and 1491 processing
units in SSI sector. - The Potential Regions for processing are
Chittoor, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam,
Ananthapur. Major Crops being Mango, Guava,
Papaya, Tomato, Onion, Spices, Medicinal and
Aromatic Plants. - Present area of processing ranges from Cashew,
Fruit / Vegetable Pulp / Concentrates, Gherkin,
RTS Beverages, Medicinal Herbs, Spices to
