- Tackling the South of Ireland
35- About me
- Robert Carson
- 31 years old
- Ex corporate marketer from PennWell a global
event organiser and publisher. - I have seen the light and have been working for
the Ocean Youth Trust Ireland since - the end of January.
- Now based in Dublin in the Dublin City Moorings.
- Specific project is to emulate the success of the
Ocean Youth Trust in the North and - build more of a presence in the South.
- I also aim to
- Become a much better sailor
- Create the worlds best social scene in Dublin
around the OYTI
36- The basics
- Youth groups
- Volunteers
- Funding
- We need to build a basic product in the South
with which to build on. From there we - can build our marketing and fundraising
functions. - We aim to build an Ocean Youth Trust Ireland
community in the South with regular - communications and regular meetings in various
pubs in Dublin! - We want to have a series of local ambassadors for
the Ocean Youth Trust Ireland - who will help pass our message on throughout
their spheres and who will enjoy the - social side of the trust.
37- Building the product
- We have committed to having the Lord Rank sail
here in the South for a minimum of - 11 voyages.
- This equates to at least 110 young people (this
does not include volunteers). - This includes the Round Ireland trip (9th July
26th August). - The following are the planned stops in the South
- Achill
- Galway
- Fenit
- Cobh
- Waterford
- Dublin
38- Building the product
- Using the Round Ireland trip as an example, the
way we are building this is - Youth Groups
- We are contacting local county council community
and enterprise officers to identify - youth groups in the area that would be interested
in taking part. The next stage is to - visit the groups and get their active
participation. - Volunteers
- We will build a volunteer base through third
party marketing and through contact and - presentations made to groups. Initially targeted
are university sailing clubs in the - areas where we plan to stop over. We will then
use contacts and ideas supplied by - the regional chairmen of the Ocean Youth Trust
Ireland. We will also back this up - with information sent to every sailing club in
Ireland and through local media - involvement.
39- Building the product
- Funding
- We will approach this from two directions.
Firstly with the youth groups and the - council contacts that we made through the
identification process we will apply for - local funding. Then we will target local
businesses for sponsorships. We will identify - a number of different sponsorship packages for
them to take up. - Attention at each port
- We will be in contact with local media, local
council officers and local business - leaders throughout the process. When the boat
comes in to each port we will aim to - have a local reception and party. We will aim to
get as much PR exposure as - possible in each place. This will give us a
foothold in each place and somewhere we - can build from.
40- Other projects
- Crew Register
- A project based around linking people who want to
go sailing and crew with yacht - owners.
- Adventurepreneurship
- A competition to find 12 young entrepreneurs from
around Ireland. The 12 winners - will go on a 6 day course at the Ryan academy and
a voyage on the Lord Rank - designed to teach the basics of business and team
work.
