1Summer Job Opportunity UTMB Summer Science Camp
Counselor
Earn cash while strengthening your resume and
science skills! Undergraduate science (biology,
chemistry, physics, or others) math, and
education majors are needed to instruct student
participants during SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP I (7th
and 8th graders) and SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP II (9th
and 10th graders). Summer Science Camps allow
middle and high school students to experience
hands-on scientific investigations. If selected,
counselors will be responsible for lab activity
management, lab set-up, providing mini-lectures,
lab safety, and supervision of campers during all
activities, lunch breaks, and field trips. An
in-service training session is provided for all
counselors. Camp I counselors are involved in
activities such as DNA isolation, dissections,
effects of anti-microbial agents on bacteria,
marble machine building, egg drop competitions,
effects of common drugs on Daphnia and/or brine
shrimp, tours to museums, etc. Camp II counselors
are involved in activities such as basic
chemistry, tissue culture, mitotic chromosome
preps, restriction enzyme digestion, ethical
issue debates, Southern blots, PCR,
etc. Counselors will work from May 21 through
August 5, 2008. This includes in-service training
sessions. Pay starts at 9.25/hour. To apply, fax
