My Expectations of Students
  • Be challenged at a high level
  • Study daily, 10-15 minutes
  • Write My Learning paragraphs every Friday for
    the week
  • Keep notebook up to date, organized, and neat
  • Turn assignments in on time
  • Attend tutorials as needed

My Expectations of Parents
  • Be involved
  • Examine discuss notebook
  • Ask what was learned todaydont accept the
    answer, nothing. -- make them be specific
  • Guide without doing
  • Check website and ask questions
  • Work together as a team

  • Send home progress reports for averages below 70

Grades
  • Check grades using
  • Parent Connect (see www.cfbisd.edu)
  • Check students Graded Work section of notebook
  • Email me for a copy of grades to be emailed or
    sent with student
  • Progress report will be emailed or sent via
    student if average falls below 70
  • 10-15 daily grades 3-5 major grades are taken
    each 9 weeks

Homework
  • Write My Learning paragraphs each Friday (due on
    Mondays)
  • Study notes 7 days a week, 10-15 minutes per
    night
  • Complete lab reports
  • Textbook reading assignment (either by checking
    out a text from me or accessing the book online)
  • Anything not completed in class

Late Work
  • By district policy
  • Late daily work will not be accepted for points,
    but is still examined
  • Late major work will be 10 points off per day
    late (up to 3 days) unless other terms are agreed
    upon
  • However
  • If late daily work is brought to tutorials the
    next morning, I will take it for a maximum of a
    70
  • If late major work is brought to tutorials, I
    will only take off 5 points for the 1st day,m 10
    points for the 2nd day, and 15 points for the 3rd
    day

Tutorials
  • Monday - Friday from 805-840 AM (signed
    Reminder Binder if entering through cafeteria)
  • Monday - Friday from 730-800 AM and 400-430
    PM by appointment
  • Assigned duties and/or meetings could alter this
    schedule
  • Official Blalack Science tutorials occur on
    Wednesdays from 805 840 AM
  • Required attendance on Wednesdays if student is
    failing

Failed Exams Projects
  • Failed major grades MUST be corrected
  • 1. Corrections are on a separate page
  • 2. Original must be signed by a parent near the
    grade
  • 3. Staple corrections to signed test
  • 4. Turn in signed test and corrections to me
    within 2 days (preferably during tutorials)
  • Failed grades can be raised up to 75
  • Above procedure is optional for those who pass
    but would like to raise grade up to 85

Absences
  • Check Calendar and Notes web pages
  • Check ABSENCE Box by door upon return
  • Copy Instructions, Process skills, Notes from
    classmate
  • Check with me if have questions
  • Preferred time-during tutorials
  • Have 1 day per day absent to make up work without
    late penalties

Science Portfolio Notebook
  • Goes home EVERY day
  • Kept neat and organized (per given instructions
    p.2)
  • Counts as a major grade each quarter
  • Method of communication between home and
    schoollook through it from time to time
  • Bring to class daily

Moodle
  • All PreAP students must participate in Virtual
    Classroom projects and quizzes
  • All students will have access to a Virtual Class
    and a TAKS review class
  • Weekly tutorial chat session monitored by a
    Science teacher
  • Wiki glossary for vocabulary look up
  • Opportunity to chat with peers about work
  • Extra credit activities
