Physical Description

• Meerkats have brown-gray fur, claws and a tail
  and they look like a crazy cat.
• They can be 120 centimeters long and weigh 21
  pounds.
• Meerkats belong to the mongoose family.
• Meerkats can dig deep in the ground and they love
  to sit out in the sun.

Habitat

• Meerkats live in southern Africa where it is very
  dry.
• They live in a hole in the ground called a
  burrow.
• The large groups they live in are called colonies.

Food and Diet

• Meerkats hunt mice, lizards and they sometimes
  eat bird eggs.
• Meerkats eat venomous scorpions and snakes.
• They are omnivorous.

Predators

• Predators sometimes try to find Meerkats that are
  alone.
• Meerkats also make noises to warn other Meerkats
  of danger.
• If Meerkats cant escape from predators, they
  hiss and this scares the predators away.

Babies

• Meerkats can have 2 to 4 babies.
• A babys color is golden brown.
• The female goes to hunt for the babies.

• Meerkats are hunted by lions, cheetahs, storks
  and vultures.
• Meerkats stand on their back legs and balance by
  using their tail.
